Got an interview coming up? Here’s five things to do:

1. Research the company and position.

Before your interview, look at the company website and social media accounts to get a better feel for what they do and how they operate. Both you and the interviewer are trying to determine if the position would be a good fit, and it doesn’t look good to walk in knowing nothing. You should have a basic understanding of the job so you can get the most out of the interview. Make sure it’s somewhere you can see yourself working and growing your career!

2. Plan your wardrobe in advance.

If you’ve done your research, you should have a general idea of the office dress code. Try on a few options ahead of time, and check out our blog on professional dress for ideas! Think about how you’ll do your hair and makeup to ensure that getting ready is as easy and stress-free as possible. Remember, it’s better to be overdressed than underdressed!

3. Look up directions.

While you’ll probably use Google maps or Waze, it’s still a good idea to get a feel for where you’re going. You can even do a test drive to get familiar with the route. Also consider where you’ll park- we’ve got a spacious lot at our Peabody headquarters and labeled spots reserved for visitors!

4. Prepare questions!

At the end of the interview, there should be an opportunity for you to ask some questions. Having some prepared is a good way to show your interest in the job and the company! Your interviewer will probably cover many of the basics, so think of at least five questions, expecting some to be answered during the interview. If you’re stumped, read our blog for suggestions.

5. Bring your resume and a notebook.

Your interviewer will likely already have a copy of your resume, but bringing an extra shows you’re prepared, and you can always use it for reference. Have a small notebook with your prepared questions, and jot down anything important that comes up during the interview. If you’re interviewing for a creative position, you can also bring a portfolio.

Be yourself, don’t forget to breathe, and try not to talk too fast. You’ve got this! And once you’ve nailed the interview, don’t forget to send a follow-up email thanking your interviewer for their time.
