FNPs are NPs who specialize in providing care for a patient throughout their lifespan. They often work as primary care providers.

However, nurse practitioners are increasingly taking on responsibilities traditionally given to physicians, and can prescribe Schedule II drugs in many states and can prescribe them in most after completing pharmacology education.
