Job Description
Our client in Indiana is actively seeking a skilled Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner for a 30-day assignment beginning Sep 14, 2026. This dynamic role involves a Monday-Friday schedule from 7a-4p, supplemented by night call and 24-hour weekend call coverage. The selected professional will play a crucial part in patient care, focusing on duties such as assisting in surgery, rounding, writing prescriptions, conducting pre-op physical exams, and performing vein harvesting.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Assist in surgery, including first assist duties and vein/artery harvesting using the Maquet system.
- Write prescriptions and order tests.
- Perform rounding in the hospital and conduct pre-operative physical exams.
- Provide acute and chronic patient care, including histories, physical examinations, inpatient and outpatient consultations.
- Complete discharge summaries and monitor therapies and medications.
- Manage post-surgical care such as chest tube removal, pacing wire removal, suture and staple removal, and wound care.
- Interpret and integrate data to determine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in consultation with a Cardiovascular Surgeon.
- Participate in multidisciplinary communication of treatment plans.
- Respond to emergencies, including CPR and ACLS protocols.
- Document patient information and care provided in the patient record, including progress notes and care plans.
Additional Information
- Required Board Certifications: Cardiothoracic Surgery; American Association of Nurse Practitioners (ANNP)
- EMR System: EPIC
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner in Cardiothoracic Surgery, including office, bedside, and OR settings.
- Experience in Maquet Vein Harvesting is required.
- Must be proficient in first assist duties.
- Average patient volume: 10 outpatient, 5-8 inpatient per day.
