Job Description

Our client is seeking a Surgery - Neurological Nurse Practitioner for a 168-day assignment in New Mexico, starting Oct 7, 2026. This role involves 6p-6a shifts and focuses on assessing, coordinating care, and managing adult and occasional pediatric patients with head traumas, chronic cerebral anomalies, and spine conditions, as well as post-operative monitoring and nighttime medical management.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Position will have mainly adult patients with the occasional pediatric patient that comes in.
  • Provider will see both adult and pediatric patients.
  • Assess, coordinate care, and staff with on call attending surgeon all head traumas, chronic cerebral anomalies and on alternating weeks spine trauma and chronic conditions.
  • Respond to trauma calls when likely to involve brain or spinal trauma.
  • Post operative monitoring and management of neurosurgical patients and neurosurgical devices (i.e. EVD, Irraflow, Lumbar drains, etc.) in both the ICU and on the medical floor.
  • Nighttime medical management of one of the subacute trauma teams at night including emergent management of declining patients pending elevation to ICU care.

  • Required Board Certifications: Neurological Surgery, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (AGPCNP-BC), Family Nurse Practitioner Certification (FNP)
  • EMR: Powerchart
  • Work site is UNMH, the only level 1 trauma center in the state of NM.
  • Shift hours are 6p-6a.
