Locum Tenens Nurse Practitioner - Family Practice Needed in NM

Job Description

We are seeking a Family Practice Nurse Practitioner for a 120-day assignment in New Mexico, starting Dec 7, 2026. This role involves night shifts from 8 PM to 8 AM, where you will function as the most senior provider on site. Responsibilities include prescribing narcotics, managing a diverse patient population with conditions ranging from strep, coughs, and colds to hypertension, diabetes, and cancer. The successful candidate will also oversee inmate doses, detoxes, injury assessments, day-to-day patient assessments, intake screenings, and Suboxone prescriptions.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Prescribe narcotics as the senior-level provider.
• Manage night shifts, serving as the primary clinician on site.
• Provide care for patients presenting with strep, cough, cold, warts, and hypertension.
• Address patient needs related to diabetes and cancer.
• Oversee daily inmate doses and detox protocols.
• Conduct assessments for potential injuries and day-to-day patient needs.
• Perform intake screenings for new patients.
• Prescribe Suboxone as needed.

Additional Information

• Required Board Certifications: Internal Medicine, Emergency Nurse Practitioner Certification (ENP-BC), Family Nurse Practitioner Certification (FNP).
• EMR System: Powerchart.
• Work setting: Inpatient care within a correctional facility housing 1600-1900 inmates.
• Patient volume includes approximately 400 inmates receiving daily doses and 200 inmates undergoing detox daily.
