Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Gastroenterologist Physician to join our client's team in Virginia for a 120-day assignment starting Sep 1, 2026. This role involves a schedule of 7:30a to 5p with an hour lunch, focusing on outpatient gastroenterology evaluations, consultations, and follow-up visits. The successful candidate will diagnose and manage various GI conditions, including performing essential endoscopic procedures like EGD, colonoscopy, biopsy, and polypectomy.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Perform outpatient gastroenterology evaluations, consultations, and follow-up visits
  • Diagnose and manage a broad range of GI conditions including GERD, IBS, IBD, liver disease, and GI bleeding
  • Perform endoscopic procedures including EGD, colonoscopy, biopsy, and polypectomy
  • Develop individualized treatment plans and coordinate ongoing patient care
  • Interpret diagnostic studies and procedural findings
  • Collaborate with primary care providers and specialty teams on patient management
  • Maintain timely and accurate EMR documentation
  • Educate patients on GI conditions, treatment options, and preventative care
  • Participate in outpatient procedural scheduling and clinic coverage as applicable


Additional Information

  • Board Certification: Gastroenterology
  • EMR System: Epic
  • Cases involve outpatient gastroenterology consultations and procedures, including endoscopic evaluations and interventions.
  • Preferred procedures and skill set include: Upper GI endoscopy (EGD) with biopsy, foreign body removal, fulguration/control of bleeding, and injection/banding of varices.
  • ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
  • PEG tube placement and management.
  • Esophageal dilation and manometry, including interpretation.
  • Small bowel biopsy.
  • Lower GI endoscopy: flexible sigmoidoscopy, rigid sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy with biopsy, and colonoscopy with polypectomy/excision of polyps.
  • Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and liver biopsy.
  • Insertion/management of Sengstaken-Blakemore tube.
  • Advanced therapeutic GI procedures outside standard ERCP/EUS scope, fellowship training in transplant hepatology or advanced interventional GI, and highly specialized tertiary-care academic procedural experience are not required.
