Job Description

Our client is seeking a Gastroenterology Physician for a 90-day assignment in VA, starting Sep 28, 2026. This role involves 7:30 AM to 5 PM inpatient coverage, focusing on consultations, diagnosing and managing acute and chronic GI conditions, and performing inpatient endoscopic procedures like EGD and colonoscopy.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide inpatient gastroenterology consultations for hospitalized patients
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic GI conditions
  • Perform inpatient endoscopic procedures including EGD and colonoscopy
  • Assess and manage patients presenting with GI bleeding and other urgent GI conditions
  • Supervising APPs or residents required
  • Collaborate with hospitalists, intensivists, surgeons, oncologists, and other specialists on complex patient care
  • Review diagnostic imaging, pathology, laboratory results, and procedural findings
  • Develop treatment plans and provide recommendations for ongoing care
  • Document patient encounters, consult notes, and procedural reports in the EMR
  • Participate in call coverage and respond to urgent inpatient GI consults as required

  • Board Certified in Gastroenterology
  • EMR: Epic
  • Primary focus on inpatient coverage for typical gastroenterology consults and admissions, including acute GI bleeding, IBD, liver, pancreas, and biliary tract diseases. Performs endoscopic procedures like EGD and colonoscopy, managing GI emergencies. The unit has 6 beds and does not involve advanced procedures.
