Locum Tenens Physician - Pathologist Needed in Illinois

We are seeking an experienced Pathologist for a 69-day assignment in Illinois. Our client is looking for a dedicated professional to work Monday through Friday, from 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM. This role primarily involves high-volume anatomic pathology and cytology, including grossing surgical specimens, performing frozen sections, and providing adequacy for fine needle aspirations. The practice handles a significant volume of general and GI biopsies, with a focus on surgical specimens.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Manage a high volume of approximately 100–120 total blocks per day, across 20–35 patients.
• Handle approximately 60 GI biopsies daily, from about 20 patients.
• Process approximately 40 general biopsies daily, from 30–35 patients, with heavy volume in thyroid, lung, and liver biopsies.
• Address non-gynecology specimens, including body fluid fixations and fine-needle aspiration (FNA) cytologies.
• Perform on-site checking for specimen adequacy, confirming sample quality.
• Conduct approximately 3 frozen sections per week.
• Independently perform grossing of surgical specimens, with assistance from technicians.
• Focus approximately 90% of work on Anatomic Pathology and cytology, including gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology.
• Provide adequacy for fine needle aspiration.
