Job Description

Our client in Texas is seeking a dedicated Psychiatrist for a 42-day assignment starting Oct 5, 2026. This role involves providing comprehensive psychiatric care within emergency units and on a consult team, managing patient evaluations, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams during 7 PM to 7 AM shifts. You will play a crucial part in managing a diverse range of psychiatric cases, ensuring high-quality patient care in a dynamic environment.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage up to 10 patients during shifts in psychiatric ER units (PED and PEU).
  • See an average volume of 5 to 6 patients during 12-hour shifts on the psychiatric ER consult team.
  • Complete initial and follow-up psychiatric evaluations.
  • Work in coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Communicate recommendations to consulting teams and place orders as indicated.
  • Facilitate doc-to-doc transfers to and from PED/PEU to the Main ED.
  • Consult other services, such as hospitalist medicine, as needed.
  • Complete legal paperwork for involuntary psychiatric hospitalization (OPC applications).
  • Perform physician-only tasks for APPs, including restraint orders and face-to-face exams.
  • Admit patients to psych observation as indicated.
