Job Description

Our client in Virginia is seeking a skilled Cardiology Critical Care Physician Assistant for a 36-day assignment starting Sep 1, 2026. The role involves 7am-4pm shifts, including weekend coverage, primarily working on a cardiothoracic surgery step-down unit. You will manage post-op and occasional pre-op patients, round, review patient data, enter orders, and perform procedures like pulling chest tubes and pacing wires under supervision.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Work on the cardiothoracic surgery step-down unit.
  • Primarily manage post-op patients, with occasional pre-op patient management.
  • Provide weekend coverage for all non-ICU CTS patients, with support from a second APP and Cardiothoracic Physicians.
  • Perform patient rounds, review medications, labs, and imaging.
  • Review surgeon notes and enter orders.
  • Document brief progress notes when a plan of care or medication adjustment is required.
  • Pull chest tubes and pacing wires on weekends, initially under the direct supervision of an attending physician.
  • Perform chest removal and pacing wire removal under direct supervision.
