Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Physician Assistant - Surgery - Cardiovascular & Thoracic for a 90-day assignment in Washington, beginning Jan 11, 2027. This role involves day shifts from 7 AM to 5 PM, complemented by call responsibilities extending into evenings and weekends. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive care, including surgical first assisting, morning rounds, medication management, and patient discharge planning, across a variety of cardiovascular and thoracic surgical cases.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Conduct morning rounds, including daily progress notes
  • Manage medications and order appropriate labs and studies as needed
  • Perform consults, history, and physical examinations
  • Discharge patients and complete discharge summaries
  • Manage and remove chest tubes
  • Attend Multidisciplinary rounds when on call
  • Conduct daily clinic for post-operative patients (Monday-Thursday)
  • First assist in all procedures
  • Perform Endoscopic Vein and Radial Harvesting using Maquet System (Hemopro 2 Vasoview)
  • Prepare conduit harvested
  • Place appropriate post-operative orders
  • Close sternotomy per surgeon preference
  • Assist with Robotic Lobectomy and Thymectomy using the Davinci Xi Robot
  • Assist with Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting
  • Assist with Aortic Valve Replacement/TAVR procedures
  • Assist with Mitral Valve Repair and Replacement
  • Assist with Thoracotomy and VATS procedures
  • Assist with Left Ventricular Assist Device Implantation
  • Assist with Aortic Dissection Repair
  • Manage ECMO Physician Assistant Workflow


Additional Information

  • Board Certifications: Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • EMR: Epic
  • Call Schedule: Evening call from 5 PM to 7 AM, with weekend call from Friday 5 PM to Monday 7 AM.
