Locum Tenens Nurse Practitioner - Cardiology Critical Care Needed in Virginia

Our client in Virginia seeks a Critical Care Nurse Practitioner for a 36-day inpatient assignment. This role primarily involves managing post-operative and some pre-operative patients on the cardiothoracic surgery step-down unit. The schedule is Tuesday through Sunday, two weeks per month, 7am to 4pm. Responsibilities include comprehensive patient rounding, medication and lab review, and performing supervised chest tube and pacing wire removals, particularly during weekend coverage for non-ICU CTS patients.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Work on the cardiothoracic surgery step-down unit.
• Primarily manage post-operative patients, with occasional pre-operative patient management.
• Provide weekend coverage for all non-ICU CTS patients, supported by a second APP and Cardiothoracic MDs.
• Round on patients, review medications, labs, and imaging.
• Review surgeon notes and enter orders.
• Document brief progress notes when a plan of care or medication adjustment is required.
• Perform chest tube and pacing wire removal on weekends.
• Initially perform chest tube and pacing wire removal under direct supervision of an attending physician.
