Barton Associates CEO April Hansen Named to SIA’s Global Power 150 Women in Staffing

Blog Highlights

Recognition follows a year of growth, acquisitions and technology investments aimed at helping healthcare organizations secure coverage and clinicians build sustainable careers.

April Hansen, MSN, RN, CEO of locum tenens staffing firm Barton Associates has been named to Staffing Industry Analysts’ (SIA) 2026 Global Power 150 Women in Staffing list. Hansen has been recognized every year since 2020, making this her seventh consecutive appearance.

The annual list honors women leaders whose vision and decisions contribute to growth within their companies and across the staffing industry. Since joining Barton as CEO in January 2025, Hansen has guided the company through a changing market while expanding how it serves healthcare organizations and clinicians.

Under her leadership, Barton has grown, strengthened its operating performance and completed acquisitions that broaden its workforce capabilities. The addition of permanent placement and managed service provider capabilities reflects Hansen’s vision for a more holistic partner to healthcare organizations as they plan for changing coverage needs.

Hansen has also championed a “powered by people, accelerated by data” approach to modernization. Barton is applying AI, automation and better market intelligence across recruiting, sales, credentialing and billing. The goal is to give teams clearer information, remove administrative friction and create more time for the relationships that help clinicians and healthcare organizations find the right fit.

Her leadership philosophy, “People First. Performance Always,” has shaped the company’s approach to that change. Hansen has emphasized clear goals, accountability and collaboration across teams while investing in tools and support that improve the experience of working with Barton. Those efforts include digital credentialing, reflective practice and continuing education offerings, and access to tax and financial resources for clinicians.

“As a nurse, I know what it means when a healthcare organization has the people it needs to care for its community,” Hansen said. “That purpose guides how we grow Barton. We’re building stronger capabilities and giving our teams better tools, while staying grounded in the trust and human judgment this work deserves.”

Hansen is a recognized voice on healthcare workforce strategy, leadership and AI-enabled transformation. She has also delivered a TEDx talk and served as a 2024 Nashville Health Care Council Fellow. She has spoken at ASA Staffing World and other industry forums, and serves as a co-founder of 100 Women Giving Back Northwoods.
