Locum Heroes Campaign Celebrates Exceptional Locum Tenens Healthcare Professionals Making a Difference in Their Communities

Barton & Associates Inc. The award, celebrating exceptional locum tenens healthcare professionals who make a difference in their communities, was awarded to Dr. Leo Alonso, a locum tenens Emergency Medicine physician. The honor is the result of a robust nomination process and includes a cash award and donation of $2,500 to a charity of his choice, Project SEMILLA, an organization dedicated to improving emergency healthcare capacity in Latin America.

A locum tenens emergency medicine physician since 2015, Dr. Alonso began his philanthropic journey over 20 years ago when he joined the Peace Corps to support rural development work and communities overseas through education. He is currently working to open an emergency medicine residency program with Project SEMILLA. Dr. Alonso also supports his own community in Jacksonville, FL, with Volunteers of Medicine, a clinic that provides free primary and specialty care to those without private health insurance.
