Job Description

Our client in California seeks an Urgent Care Physician for a 60-day assignment. This role involves evaluating and treating patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions, managing illnesses like asthma, COPD, and pneumonia, performing assessments, ordering diagnostics, and prescribing medications during shifts from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Evaluate and treat patients presenting with acute and chronic respiratory conditions, including asthma, COPD, bronchitis, pneumonia, URI, influenza, COVID/viral illness, and persistent cough.
  • Perform focused respiratory assessments and determine appropriate treatment plans.
  • Order and interpret chest X-rays, labs, pulse oximetry, and other diagnostic testing.
  • Prescribe medications, including inhalers, antibiotics, steroids, and nebulizer treatments when clinically appropriate.
  • Identify patients requiring a higher level of care or emergency department transfer.
  • Provide follow-up care and patient education for chronic respiratory diseases.
  • Participate in care coordination and referrals to outside specialists when needed.
  • Support the clinic’s community health and culturally competent care initiatives.
  • Manage cases involving shortness of breath, wheezing, persistent cough, and chest congestion.
  • Perform rapid testing for COVID, flu, RSV, and strep, as available.
  • Initiate and adjust inhaler therapy, providing patient education.
  • Assess oxygen needs and manage supplemental oxygen.
  • Offer smoking cessation counseling and conduct chronic asthma/COPD follow-up and medication management.
