Locum Tenens Physician Assistant - Critical Care Medicine Needed in MD

Job Description

We are seeking a Critical Care Medicine Physician Assistant for a 30-day assignment with our client in Maryland, starting Aug 17, 2026. This role involves 12-hour independent night ICU coverage, with shifts from 7pm to 7am, where you will be integral to patient care in a mixed ICU environment.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Provide 12-hour independent night ICU coverage
• Manage a mixed ICU, primarily medical with some surgical cases (carotids, aneurisms, breast flaps, sick general surgery patients, etc.)
• Maintain an average census of 5 patients, potentially up to 10 on the high end
• Consult on the step-down unit (will not manage patients on this unit)
• Work as the sole APP on the unit with an on-call Physician, generally not requiring the Physician to return at night
• Perform A-line and C-line placements
• Intubation and chest tube placements are a plus but not required (Anesthesia is in-house at nights)
• Care for a significant population of elderly and palliative care patients
