Job Description

Our client in California is seeking a Cardiac Surgery Physician Assistant for a 60-day assignment starting Apr 6, 2026. This vital role involves 7a-5p shifts, primarily managing inpatient surgical patients, performing various procedures like chest tube removal and suture placement, and assisting in complex cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures including lobectomy and esophagectomy, utilizing robotic, thoracoscopic/laparoscopic, and open techniques, with a focus on pre-operative, post-operative, and floor work, and some outpatient management.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Managing inpatient surgical patients, ED consults, HBS consults, and transfers
  • Performing procedures such as chest tube removal, nasogastric tube removal, suture removal, and suture placement
  • Assisting in surgical procedures such as lobectomy, segmentectomy, wedge resection, pneumonectomy, mediastinoscopy, lung decortication, pleurodesis, mediastinal mass resections, thymectomy, esophagectomy, paraoesophageal hernia repair, and Heller myotomy. Using robotic, thoracoscopic/laparoscopic, and open technique.
  • Assisting in procedures such as bedside bronchoscopy, and bedside chest tube placement
  • Coordinating discharges
  • Consulting HBS and other specialties as needed
  • Office visits for new consults, ongoing outpatient management, and post-operative patients
  • Participating in the Lung Cancer Survivorship surveillance program
  • Attending weekly General and Sub-Regional Thoracic Tumor Board
  • Attending weekly Thoracic team meeting

  • Cases: CVT/Thoracic Surgery, with no vein harvesting; 40% OR max, mainly pre-op/post-op and floor work
  • Shift hours: 7a-5p
