Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Nurse Practitioner - Cardiothoracic Surgery for an immediate 48-day assignment starting Apr 7, 2026, in Virginia. This role involves providing comprehensive care on a cardiothoracic surgery step-down unit, primarily managing post-operative patients with some pre-operative duties. The schedule includes 7am-4pm shifts and weekend coverage for non-ICU CTS patients, focusing on rounding, reviewing patient data, and performing minor procedures under physician supervision.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide comprehensive care for patients on the cardiothoracic surgery step-down unit, primarily focusing on post-operative management and occasional pre-operative patient care.
  • Ensure weekend coverage for all non-ICU cardiothoracic surgery patients, with support from a second Advanced Practice Provider and Cardiothoracic Physicians.
  • Perform patient rounds on weekends, review medications, labs, and imaging, analyze surgeon notes, and accurately enter orders.
  • Document brief progress notes when a plan of care or medication adjustment is required.
  • Perform chest tube and pacing wire removal on weekends, initially under the direct supervision of an attending physician.
  • Undertake chest removal and pacing wire removal procedures under direct supervision.
