Locum Tenens Physician Assistant - Surgery - Cardiothoracic Needed in IN

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant for a 60-day assignment in Indiana, starting Jun 1, 2026. This role involves a Monday through Friday schedule from 7a-4p, including night call, with primary responsibilities in the operating room as first assist. You will manage patient rounding, conduct pre-op physical exams, order tests, write prescriptions, and perform procedures such as suture removal and vein harvesting, ensuring comprehensive patient care in a hospital environment.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Assist in surgery as a first assist, including vein and artery harvesting using the Maquet system.
• Perform daily rounding in the hospital, managing both inpatient and outpatient care.
• Conduct pre-operative physical exams and order appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Write prescriptions and complete discharge summaries.
• Provide acute and chronic patient care, including monitoring therapies and medications.
• Perform procedures such as chest tube removal, pacing wire removal, suture removal, staple removal, and debridement.
• Respond to emergencies, utilizing CPR and ACLS protocols.
• Interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in consultation with the Cardiovascular Surgeon.
• Address cardiac rehabilitation, nutritional needs, and wound care.

• Shift hours: M-F 7a-4p with night call from 4p-7a
• Typical patient volume: 10 outpatient and 5-8 inpatient patients per day
