Job Description

We are seeking a Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant for a 51-day locum tenens assignment in Maryland, starting Dec 22, 2025. This non-surgical, post-operative role offers full-time or part-time night coverage with 13-hour shifts from 7pm to 8am. The PA will provide advanced post-op care to CT surgery patients, performing procedures such as A-Lines, Swan-Ganz catheterization, chest tube insertion and removal, and pacer wire removal within an ICU. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with CVOR APPs and intensivist co-managers, managing a caseload of 4-12 patients per shift, with a maximum of 4 ICU-level patients.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide post-operative care for cardiothoracic surgery patients in an ICU
  • Perform procedures including central line and arterial line insertion, chest tube insertion/removal, pacer wire removal, and Swan-Ganz catheterization
  • Manage a patient caseload of 4-12 per shift (maximum 4 ICU-level)
  • Collaborate with CVOR APPs and intensivist ICU co-managers
  • Conduct detailed morning sign-out at the end of shift
  • Ensure adherence to advanced cardiac life support protocols
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care
  • Deliver high-quality care in a non-surgical, night shift environment


Additional Information

  • Must hold a valid Maryland license
  • Required certifications: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Board certifications: Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (ACNP-BC), Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification - Adult Gerontology (ACNPC-AG), Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Experience with critical care and post-operative CT surgery patients strongly preferred
