Job Description

Our client is seeking a dedicated Critical Care Medicine Physician Assistant for a 30-day assignment in Maryland, starting Jul 1, 2026. This role involves 12-hour independent night ICU coverage from 7pm to 7am, where you will manage a mixed ICU with an average census of 5 patients, potentially reaching 10. The Physician Assistant will primarily handle medical cases and some surgical patients, and will be responsible for procedures such as A lines and C lines.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide 12-hour independent night ICU coverage
  • Manage a mixed ICU, primarily medical with some surgical cases (e.g., carotids, aneurisms, breast flaps, sick general surgery patients)
  • Maintain an average census of 5 patients, with a potential high of 10
  • Consult with the separately managed step-down unit (without managing patients on this unit)
  • Serve as the sole Advanced Practice Provider (APP) on the unit with an on-call Physician, generally not requiring the Physician to return to the unit at night
  • Perform A line and C line procedures
  • Intubation and chest tube skills are a plus, though not required (Anesthesia is in-house overnight)
  • Provide care to a significant elderly patient population, as the hospital serves a large retirement community
  • Address the needs of a large palliative care patient population
