Job Description

We are seeking a Family Practice Nurse Practitioner for an engaging 40-day locum tenens assignment in Montana, starting Apr 27, 2026. This role involves providing primary medical care, including physical examinations, complex patient evaluations, and expert consultation, with a schedule of Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, plus on-call duties.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provides primary medical care to patients during scheduled clinic times, rounds on clinical units, unscheduled visits to units, and during on-call after hours.
  • Performs initial (within 24 hours of admission) and yearly physical examinations of extended care patients.
  • Evaluates and treats patients with complex medical and psychiatric problems.
  • Provides expert medical consultation to attending psychiatrists and nursing staff.
  • Provides after-hours on-call primary medical coverage for hospital patients.
  • Completes documentation, writes reports, and conducts evaluations as required by hospital policies and state and federal regulations and standards.
  • Provides medical clinic leadership under the direction of the Medical Director.
  • Consults with other internal and external professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and attorneys as needed to make patient care decisions.
  • Carries out other appropriate duties as requested by the Medical Director.
  • Serves on hospital committees as assigned by the Medical Director or the Hospital Administrator.
  • Participates in, and provides for other staff, continuing education and training programs.
  • Maintains liaison communication with community physicians, mental health professionals, and drug/alcohol programs.
