Responsibilities and Duties
Provide primary medical care to patients of the state hospital during scheduled clinics, rounds, unscheduled visits, and after-hours on-call coverage
Perform initial (within 24 hours of admission) and yearly physical examinations for extended care patients
Evaluate and treat patients with complex medical and psychiatric problems
Offer medical consultation to attending psychiatrists and nursing staff
Complete documentation, reports, and evaluations in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards
Provide medical clinic leadership under the direction of the Medical Director
Consult with internal and external professionals, including physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and attorneys
Participate in hospital committees and treatment team functions as assigned
Contribute to continuing education and training programs for staff
Maintain liaison communication with community physicians, mental health professionals, and drug/alcohol programs
