Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Gastroenterologist for a 101-week locum tenens assignment in Nebraska, starting Oct 31, 2025. This position centers on inpatient consults and scheduled endoscopic procedures, Monday through Friday, with night and weekend call coverage as assigned. The role offers engagement in a dynamic academic environment, collaborating closely with GI fellows and residents.

  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7am–5pm (often until 6pm with fellows); night call and 24-hour weekend call from Friday 5pm to Monday 7am as scheduled

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Perform inpatient GI consults and scheduled non-advanced endoscopic procedures
  • Provide urgent or emergent endoscopy for GI bleeds, obstructions, or foreign body removal
  • Round on patients and update care plans with the care team between cases
  • Teach and supervise GI fellows and residents during consults and procedures
  • Document all patient care and procedures accurately in the EMR
  • Communicate with multidisciplinary teams for continuity of care
  • Cover assigned weekday, weekend, and evening call shifts

Additional Information
  • Board certification in Gastroenterology required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Experience in an academic or teaching hospital setting strongly preferred
  • Previous inpatient experience and proficiency with standard endoscopic procedures expected
  • Collaborative team environment, working with GI fellows and internal medicine residents
