Responsibilities and Duties
Perform history and physical exams, including pelvic exams when indicated
Order and interpret diagnostic tests and therapeutic modalities within scope of specialty
Administer chemotherapy and biotherapy (must have performed at least 10 administrations in the past 12 months)
Implement therapeutic interventions for specific conditions as appropriate
Conduct arterial puncture and blood gas sampling
Provide debridement and general care for superficial wounds and minor surgical procedures
Insert and remove non-weighted nasogastric or oro-gastric tubes
Incise and drain superficial abscesses
Perform urinary bladder catheterization (short term and indwelling)
Perform venous punctures for blood sampling, cultures, and IV catheterization
Assess and manage intrapartum, antepartum, and postpartum patients, including high-risk pregnancies
Conduct colposcopy and biopsies
Interpret fetal heart monitoring and tracings
Insert and remove intrauterine devices (IUDs) and subcutaneous birth control
Initiate pharmacologic therapy for general gynecologic and obstetric health needs
Perform endometrial, vaginal, and vulvar biopsies
Screen and refer for other health problems, including suspected sexual abuse and pregnancy complications
Act as surgical first assistant, including tissue closure/cautery and other delegated actions under physician supervision
Insert Foley catheter to cervix for vaginal delivery
Perform deliveries under direct supervision
Additional Information
Must hold a current New York license
Required certifications: Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
Experience with chemotherapy/biotherapy administration required (minimum 10 cases in prior 12 months)
Preferred board certifications: Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (AGACNP-BC), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (AGPCNP-BC), Adult Nurse Practitioner Certification (ANP-BC), Family Nurse Practitioner Certification (FNP)
