Job Description

We are seeking a Hematology/Oncology Physician Assistant for a 13-day locum tenens assignment in New York. This opportunity starts Jan 2, 2026, with orientation and clinical work beginning Jan 5, 2026. The schedule includes 13 shifts per month, 7:00am to 7:30pm, supporting oncology care within an Oncology Care Unit.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Assess, diagnose, monitor, and manage care for patients with all types of cancer and benign or malignant tumors
  • Promote health and protection from disease within scope of supervising physician
  • Implement therapeutic interventions for specified conditions
  • Perform arterial puncture and blood gas sampling
  • Conduct debridement and general care for superficial wounds and minor superficial surgical procedures
  • Perform incision and drainage of superficial abscesses
  • Insert and remove non-weighted nasogastric or oro-gastric tubes
  • Order and interpret diagnostic testing and therapeutic modalities including laboratory tests, medications, hemodynamic monitoring, IV fluids and electrolytes, EMG, electrocardiogram, and radiologic examinations (arthrogram, ultrasound, CT, MRI, bone scan)
  • Perform urinary bladder catheterization (short term and indwelling)
  • Perform venous punctures for blood sampling, cultures, and IV catheterization
  • Complete Death Certificate Protocols
  • Remove arterial catheters, central venous catheters, and chest tubes
  • Perform Fine Needle Aspiration and Punch Biopsy of skin
  • Demonstrate recent experience and competency in administering chemotherapy and biotherapy (minimum 10 administrations in past 12 months)

Additional Information
  • New York state license required
  • Required certifications: Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
  • Experience in chemotherapy and biotherapy prescribing preferred
  • Must show competence in oncology care setting
