Responsibilities and Duties
Assess, diagnose, monitor, and manage care for patients with all types of cancer, including benign and malignant tumors and diseases, under the supervision of a physician
Promote health and protection from disease within the scope of practice
Perform arterial puncture and blood gas sampling
Provide debridement and general care for superficial wounds and minor superficial surgical procedures
Implement therapeutic interventions for specific conditions as appropriate
Insert and remove non-weighted nasogastric or oro-gastric tubes
Order and interpret diagnostic testing and therapeutic modalities, including laboratory tests, medications, hemodynamic monitoring, treatments, IV fluids and electrolytes, EMG, electrocardiogram, radiologic examinations (arthrogram, ultrasound, CT, MRI, bone scan studies)
Perform incision and drainage of superficial abscesses
Perform urinary bladder catheterization, including Robinson, coudé, and Foley
Perform venous punctures for blood sampling, cultures, and IV catheterization
Complete death certificate protocols
Remove arterial catheters, central venous catheters, and chest tubes
Perform fine needle aspiration and punch biopsy of skin
Additional Information
New York PA license required
Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) required
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certifications required
Experience in ambulatory hemophilia and hematology/oncology preferred
