Job Description

We are seeking an Internal Medicine Nurse Practitioner for an 8-week locum tenens assignment in Texas, starting Sep 22, 2025. This opportunity offers a flexible two-day-per-week schedule with day shifts from 8am to 5pm. The assignment is ideal for advanced practice providers with a strong background in family or internal medicine who can work independently in a dynamic primary care setting.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide comprehensive primary and internal medicine care in a one-stop outpatient setting
  • Independently manage patient assessments, including checking blood pressure, weight, temperature, and obtaining vitals
  • Perform EKGs and interpret results as needed
  • Order and review lab work (blood work outsourced; create lab orders)
  • Conduct urine analysis
  • Prescribe medications, manage prescription refills (including controlled substances), and oversee prescription management
  • Review medical records and lab results
  • Utilize Prognocis EHR and related software for patient documentation and communication
  • Apply knowledge of medical office procedures, billing practices, and healthcare regulations
  • Multitask efficiently and provide leadership within a resource-limited environment
  • Collaborate with a physician as needed


Additional Information

  • Valid Texas medical license and DEA certificate required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in family medicine or primary care settings
  • Board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine required
  • Proficiency with EHR (Prognocis) and healthcare billing codes expected
  • Occasional evening hours may be necessary based on practice needs
  • No medical assistant support onsite; independence with clinical procedures is essential
