Job Description

Barton is seeking a Physician Assistant specializing in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine for a 42-day locum tenens assignment in Texas. This opportunity begins Jan 5, 2026, and has a mix of 13 hour day/night shifts for 8-14 days per month. The selected locum will be handling PICU coverage, physicals, illnesses, and other critical care cases. There is also potential for extension with this opportunity.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Conduct and document comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status
  • Synthesize data and utilize evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate patient plans of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results
  • Demonstrate proficiency in technical and procedural skills relevant to pediatric critical care
  • Provide management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families, and caregivers regarding current care and preventive health measures
  • Facilitate and participate in quality-related initiatives to improve clinical and system practice performance
  • Collaborate in research projects and protocols, and routinely apply evidence-based best practices to patient care

Additional Information

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a PICU setting required
  • Active Texas license required
  • Certifications required: Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Experience with Epic EMR preferred
  • Assignment is contingent upon credentialing and may be extended through year-end based on performance
