Job Description

We are seeking a licensed Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner for a 250-day locum tenens assignment in California, starting Dec 1, 2025. This role offers a weekday schedule of 8-5, Monday through Friday, focused on adult outpatient care for patients aged 16 and older, with opportunities to collaborate within an integrated behavioral health team.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations for new adult patients (16+)
  • Provide medication management and follow-up care for stable to moderate psychiatric conditions
  • Collaborate with therapists, LCSWs, and LMFTs to coordinate behavioral health support
  • Work closely with primary care providers to ensure integrated medical and psychiatric management
  • Review active cases monthly with the supervising psychiatrist to maintain clinical oversight
  • Maintain detailed electronic health record documentation for all telehealth encounters in compliance with regulatory and billing requirements
  • Diagnose and manage conditions such as major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, adjustment disorders, PTSD (mild to moderate), bipolar II (stable, non-acute), insomnia, ADHD, mild neurocognitive symptoms (non-dementia), substance use disorder (in remission or stable), and outpatient-appropriate personality disorders
  • Complete comprehensive psychiatric intakes, diagnostic assessments, and periodic reassessments
  • Initiate, titrate, and monitor psychotropic medications
  • Review and interpret labs as clinically indicated
  • Develop and document individualized treatment plans
  • Participate in monthly psychiatrist case reviews for quality assurance
  • Refer and link patients to higher levels of care when clinically indicated

Additional Information
  • Must hold an active California nurse practitioner license
  • Board certification is not required for this assignment
  • Pediatric cases under 16 years and severe psychiatric conditions are excluded from this setting
  • No inpatient or emergency psychiatric responsibilities
