Job Description

We are seeking a Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner for a 24-day assignment in California, starting Apr 20, 2026. Our client needs a skilled professional to manage a diverse caseload, conducting psychiatric evaluations, administering psychotropic medications, and performing crisis interventions. The schedule is 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, involving close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team and diligent maintenance of accurate clinical records.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Proficient in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment, with specialization in early psychosis care.
  • Deliver compassionate, developmentally appropriate care that respects patient autonomy and privacy.
  • Effectively conduct safety assessments and manage psychiatric crises, including evaluations.
  • Collaborate seamlessly with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive, coordinated care.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, families, and team members.
  • Provide culturally responsive care informed by patients' backgrounds and lived experiences.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in adherence with MediCal/MediCare and HIPAA standards.
  • Utilize electronic health records and digital communication tools efficiently.
  • Actively participate in training, supervision, and ongoing learning to maintain clinical excellence.
  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations and ongoing assessments of CHRp and FEP patients.
  • Review outside medical records, perform diagnostic assessments including taking medical histories and performing physical exams.
  • Determine appropriate medical work ups including labs/imaging, communicate recommendations for diagnostic assessments to outside medical providers.
  • Interpret medical work up results, refer to outside medical specialists if appropriate, prescribe medication if appropriate, and monitor progress and treatment efficacy.
  • Perform crisis interventions, including but not limited to safety assessments and determination of 5150 appropriateness and execution.
  • Administer injectable psychotropic medications.
  • Establish and maintain therapeutic rapport with patients and productive working relationships with involved support persons.
  • Maintain caseload of 40+ patients.
  • Conduct frequent appointments as deemed appropriate to meet individual patient needs.
  • Maintain clinical records in accordance with mandated standards.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team that includes the psychiatric medical director, therapists, case manager, employment and education specialist, peer support specialist, and family support specialist.
  • Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings.
  • Attend and participate in clinical supervision with supervising psychiatrist.
  • Consult and provide ongoing education to non-medical staff in psychopharmacology and medical aspects of patient care.
  • Attend and participate in all assigned trainings for professional, program, and agency development.
  • Comply with all federal regulations for the sake of privacy and security of patient information.
  • Maintain quality assurance standards, adherence to MediCal/MediCare documentation requirements, and data collection for measured outcomes.
  • Perform additional duties, as needed, within the scope of practice.
