Job Description
We are seeking a board-certified Psychiatrist for a 13-week locum tenens assignment in California, starting Feb 25, 2026. This opportunity offers day shifts from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with Sundays required and flexible hours. Responsibilities and Duties
- Maintain overall clinical responsibility for mental health programs within the facility
- Oversee completion of mental health screenings and evaluations
- Perform sick call visits and chronic care visits
- Conduct rounds in all units
- Formulate working diagnoses, develop and implement treatment plans, and evaluate or modify therapeutic regimens to promote positive outcomes
- Coordinate, lead, and participate in educational training activities related to mental health care
- Provide medication management, therapy, and other evidence-based treatment plans to address mental health needs
- Respond to acute mental health crises within the facility
- Support rehabilitation of patients and facilitate successful transitions back into the community
- Ensure compliance with State and Federal mandates and regulations, including court mandates and standards
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including correctional staff, psychologists, social workers, and other medical professionals to develop and implement treatment plans and ensure staff responsiveness to patient needs
Additional Information
- Active California medical license required
- Board certification in Psychiatry required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Corrections experience preferred, but not required
- Must be able to travel to different jails within the county
- Background check clearance required prior to start
- Experience with TechCare EMR preferred
