Locum Tenens Physician Assistant - Surgery - Cardiovascular & Thoracic Needed in IN

Job Description

Our client is seeking an experienced Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery Physician Assistant for a 7-day assignment in Indiana, beginning May 7, 2026. This crucial role involves daily rounding on inpatients, managing new consults, and facilitating patient discharges. The schedule includes daytime shifts from 7am-4:30pm followed by on-call responsibilities. Key duties encompass operating room first assistance, EVH procedures, and potential training for new APPs, covering complex cardiac, thoracic, vascular, and heart failure surgeries.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Conduct daily rounding on inpatients in ICU and stepdown units
• Manage new consults and facilitate patient discharges
• Perform operating room duties, including Endoscopic Vein Harvesting (EVH)
• First assist on a variety of surgical cases
• Provide emergency operating room call coverage
• Train new Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) on EVH techniques
• Handle patient management calls and ER consultations
• Manage patient transfers from other hospitals
• Address cases across specialties including cardiac (CAB, valves, aortic dissections), thoracic (robotic surgeries, VATs, thoracotomies, lobectomies, wedge resections), vascular (CEA, AAA, leg revascularizations), and heart failure (LVAD, ECMO, impellas)
• Manage 8-10 inpatient encounters per shift

Additional Information

• EMR System: Cerner
• Must possess cardiothoracic experience
• Proficiency in Endoscopic Vein Harvesting (EVH) required
• Work in a Trauma facility
