Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Pediatric Hospitalist Physician for a 4-day locum tenens assignment in California, starting May 7, 2026. This role involves 24-hour shifts, from 8 am to 8 am, focusing on rounding and providing on-call coverage for a diverse range of pediatric and neonatal cases, including high-risk deliveries and stabilization for transport.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide 24-hour call coverage with daily rounding from approximately 8:30 am to 11 am, transitioning to out-of-house call.
  • Manage a robust nursery in a rural setting, often serving as the sole pediatrician for consults.
  • Demonstrate strong delivery room skills, including NRP certification, airway management, and the ability to perform emergency umbilical lines in both L&D and the NICU.
  • Handle cases, focusing on stabilization for transport, accounting for potential weather delays and facility proximity.
  • Attend high-risk deliveries, typically 2-3 per week.
  • Care for 3-5 normal newborns and 1-3 high-risk newborns daily, including growing premies and those requiring respiratory support.
  • Admit uncomplicated and stable pediatric patients with common conditions such as dehydration, pneumonia, and asthma.
  • Manage neonates, including stabilizing and preparing them for transport to higher-level facilities, primarily Oakland and Santa Rosa.
  • Note: Cases typically involve infants down to 32 weeks gestational age, with transfers for younger or more complex cases.
