Physicians and nurse practitioners (NP) typically have hectic days. Wouldn’t it be nice if they could not only see an updated schedule, but also view patient details, patient status, medical records, and make updates from a mobile device? It’s possible with the Kareo iPhone application.
The free Kareo app gives doctors and NPs an easy and convenient way to keep track of appointments. Users can access an updated schedule anywhere they have a mobile signal, whether they are in the hospital, commuting to the office, or at home. From the application the user can see:
- All his or her scheduled appointments
- The name, age, and phone number for the scheduled patient(s)
- Time and duration of the visit
- Reason for the visit
- Whether the patient has checked in, cancelled, etc.
- Notes about the appointment
Although the app is free, it only works if users have signed up for Kareo’s web-based billing software, which helps users manage their practice and streamline their billing process. The product also integrates with electronic health records (EHR) so users can send billing data from the EHR directly to Kareo for billing. Kareo was founded in 2004, and was intended to be a simple alternative to the expensive billing and management products that required users to pay licensing fees and sign multi-year contracts. Kareo users pay a monthly subscription fee and can access the web-based software from anywhere.
Kareo’s founder and CEO, Dan Rodrigues, told VentureBeat that before the company developed the mobile app, they asked physicians to give their top priority for a mobile app. “Hands down, their number one request was the ability to see their office’s patient appointment schedule on their iPhone.” And that is just what Kareo delivers, a simple tool that gives doctors and NPs the ability to manage their day from anywhere.
